The doors and windows are open. The broad-winged hawk whistles in the distance. The still smallish leaves on the oaks and ash shimmer in their translucent green freshness. Spring-tastic weather eases itself upon us as warm temps creep steadily upward with some pre-summer heat due to arrive later this week. Scraggly vegetable seedlings acclimate to the garden and we wait for the freshly sown seeds to sprout, just as the nesting birds wait for the first chick’s peep.

There is nothing instant about this life.

Spring unfolds in her own sweet time just as summer will in a few weeks.

There may not be anything instant about this life, but there is a steady life-pulsing energy that propels everything to unfurl from its potential into leaf, stem and full flower. The heartbeat of that propulsive energy lies within each of us.

Rise Above Guest House participates in that steady life-pulsing stream of energy even if most days I don’t know if we are at root, stem, leaf or flower stage. I suspect we don’t need to know as long as we remember that the path from potential to leaf, flower and one day fruition is not about “getting somewhere,” but rather about participating in a life-affirming energetic cycle.

The pulse of that steady-paced aliveness softens the edges of my instant-addicted brain and re-wires my nervous system to remember again a natural and rhythmic state of unfolding. The open doors and windows of the Guest House keep us connected to that rhythm.
